Nigeria Moves to Avert Strike by Varsity Staff, Fixes Talks with Unions for Wednesday

Non-teaching varsity staff unions in Nigeria have directed members to commence a one-week warning strike from Monday.
The federal government has urged the non-teaching staff of federal universities not to embark on the warning strike scheduled to commence Monday.
The government said that it has fixed a meeting with the leaders of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) to be held on or before Wednesday this week to iron out issues.
According to the Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Emameh Gabriel, the minister has sent letters to the affected unions inviting them to a meeting this week to try to resolve their grievances.
Emameh, who spoke on Sunday, said that the government was not formally notified by the unions before declaring strike.
“Talks are underway and there will be no strike. While SSANU and NASU threatened to strike without formally notifying the government, communication channels remained open.
“The minister has also emphasized the importance of following established procedures. She reminded the unions last week that adhering to these guidelines is essential for resolving issues.
“Strike is averted, for now. A strike has also been avoided for the immediate future. The union leaders are scheduled to meet with the minister in the middle of the week, Wednesday tentatively, to discuss their concerns,” he said.
But even as the federal government seeks to halt the strike, the unions have directed its members to commence the one-week warning strike nationwide beginning from Monday.

The warning strike is to protest non-payment of the four months withheld salaries as approved by President Bola Tinubu.
A circular by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the two university-based unions dated March 18, 2024 and signed by General Secretary, NASU, Peters Adeyemi, and President, SSANU Mohammed lbrahim said the directive became imperative following the failure of government to listen to their demands.
In the circular, the unions stated: “The Joint Action Committee of SSANU and NASU has inundated the federal government with the need to pay the withheld four months’ salaries of our members in the federal universities and inter-university centres as done for our academic counterpart to no avail.
“Having waited patiently for the ultimatum to expire without a positive response to our demand by the government, this is to direct our members in the universities and inter-university centres throughout the country to commence a seven-day warning strike effective Monday, March 18, 2024 in the first instance”.
The unions had earlier issued an ultimatum to the federal government demanding the implementation of the agreement on 25 per cent and 35 per cent pay rise reached in 2023 before the commencement of new minimum wage negotiations.
They described the withholding of the members salaries as a breach of the post-strike agreement with government on non-victimisation of its members who participated in the six-month strike.
In the communique signed by SSANU president, Ibrahim, the unions listed 26 federal and state universities that are still owing their members arrears of the national minimum wage adjustment.
They demanded that the federal government should urgently pay four months withheld salaries to members, failing which they will no longer guarantee industrial peace in the institutions.
In the communique released at the end of its 47th National Executive Council meeting (NEC) held at the Federal University of Technology Akure in Ondo state, SSANU said it viewed the delay in the implementation of the approved wage award and payment of withheld salaries as the handiwork of saboteurs.
“NEC in session therefore calls on the relevant authorities of government to immediately implement the directive of Mr. President by paying our members the four months withheld salaries, failing which NEC has approved a one-week warning strike in conjunction with our sister union, NASU,” he stated.
SSANU said that the federal government had in 2023 awarded a wage increase of 25 per cent and 35 per cent to its members for which a corresponding salary structure had even been circulated via a letter from the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission in September last year.
However, the union expressed sadness that over six months after, the wage award has not been implemented in the monthly salaries of members even though the sum of N100 billion was provided for in the budget for that purpose.
SSANU said it would want the federal government to implement the 25 per cent and 35 per cent wage increase by factoring it into the monthly salaries of members
It lamented that the value of the salary increase had already been eroded, adding that any further delay will drastically reduce the purchasing power and value of the money.
“We demand this implementation before renegotiation of the new national minimum wage for which government has already set up a committee.
“NEC also demands that government expedites action on the renegotiation of the new national minimum wage as the current national minimum wage has completely been made useless by the hyperinflation currently ravaging the country,” it added.
SSANU also urged the federal government to stop foot-dragging on the issue of re-negotiation.

The University of Ibadan (UI) has been plunged into total darkness following the non-teaching staff unions’ strike.
The strike was embarked upon on Monday by the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria n Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) as directed by their national bodies.
Speaking on Tuesday on the effects of the strike, the Chairman, SSANU, UI, Mr Rasak Omisore, said the union was forced to down tools to press home their demands.
He said their agitations included unpaid four months’ salaries and funding of the universities, both at the federal and state levels.
Omisore added that there would be no meaningful development in Nigeria if the funding of education took the back seat.
“We are also talking about the constitution of governing councils for all the universities where their councils have been dissolved, as the importance of councils in universities cannot be underestimated.
“We are expecting the Federal Government to invite the national council of our union to address the issues of our demands,” Omisore said.
He said almost all the offices in the university were locked with members of staff in the administrative offices not on duty.
“Yes, you see students on campus, and they are receiving their lectures because ASUU is not on strike, but the works and maintenance department is a very vital part of the university as there has neither been light nor water due to the strike.
“Establishment offices are not working and Jaja is on skeletal duty,” the chairman said.
Meanwhile, the leadership of UI Students’ Union, led by its President, Tobiloba Samuel, says it has met with SSANU to plead for the restoration of power in the hostels.
Samuel, in an interview with NAN, called on the government to accede to the demands of the unions as students bear the brunt of the faceoff.
“We have to come to the understanding that every member of the university community is very important and if the teaching staff, the non-teaching staff, and the students are not at the optimum level, we cannot have the effective academic environment that we need.
“For the last 24 hours, students have been in great distress. We have not had light in 24 hours; meaning there is no water; amenities are not working, and some lecture halls are not open.
“We are calling on them to do the needful to ensure that peace returns to our various campuses and not just the University of Ibadan,” Samuel said.
He says the students stand in solidarity with the unions because the fight for a better education system is everybody’s business.
Some of the students told NAN that they were receiving lectures and writing tests with lecturers making use of alternative classes like the postgraduate classrooms.
NAN, however, reports that the leadership and members of the unions enforced the strike at the UI maintenance department, the staff school, and the postgraduate school.
Also, some gates serving as shorter routes, especially for the hostels, were closed, thus making the students travel longer distances.
The use of lecture halls, toilets, and other faculty facilities was also affected by the strike. (NAN).

We join our affiliate unions, the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational (NASU) and Associated Institutions and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) in demanding for the immediate payment of the withheld salaries of their members.
There has been no credible reason or explanation for withholding those salaries in the first place.
We recall this singular act plunged the members into indescribable hardship.
Much worse, it defies logic to try to subject members of these unions to discriminatory treatment.
By so doing government is clearly courting avoidable industrial dispute.
At a time confidence is being restored to the public universities the least government could do is not engineer another strike.
The toll on all the parties will be unacceptably high, especially for students and parents who bear the burden of movement on our dangerous roads.
In light of this, we urge government to expeditiously pay up the outstanding.
We advise government to not take for granted the maturity of these unions".

The Universe must therefore last Six Thousand Years, of which the greater portion has already expired. When it is stated that GOD rested on the Seventh Day, the meaning is that Lord Jesus Christ De Messiah will appear at the BEGINNING of the Seventh Millennium in order to dethrone the lawless One, judge the ungodly and transform the SUN, MOON and STARS. GOD, Who sent His Son as SAVIOUR, will send Him again as JUDGE. He separate the Good from the Bad and will sort out the confusion in which they have lived on Earth. Each individual will receive REWARD according to his deeds. If he be GOOD, his Righteousness will go before him, but if he be EVIL, the recompense of his EVIL is in store for him. Destruction Death will be the lot of the Wicked, the impenitent, false teachers and those who rejected God; they will PERISH eternally. The former Coming was enacted at the INCARNATION but the later will take place in JERUSALEM where Lord Christ De Messiah will be recognized by the JEWS who dishonored Him in the Sacrifice which avails for all penitent SOULS (sinners) and he will eat and drink with His Disciples and He will RESIGN in the World a THOUSAND YEARS. Thus, The SON Of GOD appearing at the Beginning of the SEVENTH MILLENNIUM would REIGN with the JUST (Righteous) until a NEW UNIVERSE was called into existence st the commencement of the EIGHTH MILLENNIUM.
The final flowering of the Christian/Zionist HOPE consisted in participation in the Divine Nature and in the Blessed Immortality Of God. The Eternal SALVATION of the RIGHTEOUS will take the form of that INCORRUPTIBILITY which FELLOWSHIP With God Almighty will impart. When the Divine Image and Likeness have been restored in a man, he becomes capable of "seeing perfect things", and after the Resurrection will receive a Blessed Immortality. The Grace of the Spirit already at work in us, will, when fully given, make us PERFECT, according to The Father's Will. For it will RESTORE Man to God's Image and Likeness. After the Resurrection God will cause him to share in His Own Privilege of INCORRUPTIBILITY. This will be the effect of the VISION of God which, out of sheer Goodness, The Father will bestow on the Elect; "For those who see God are within God sharing His Glory".
So, the Kingdom Of God is:
(i) The apprehension of Divine Truth and Spiritual Reality ~ The Divine Life Of God In A Faithful BELIEVER.
(ii) The Indwelling of The WORD OF GOD or the SEEDS Of Truth implanted in the SOUL (Luke 17: 2) ~ The BELIEVER or CHRISTIAN / ZIONIST as the Church Of God on Earth.
(iii) The Spiritual Doctrine of the ensouled WORD imparted through Lord Jesus Christ De Messiah ~ the Principle of Righteousness in all its embodiment of Morality and Holiness is, first and foremost, in the KINGDOM OF GOD ~ This Connotes The Happiness And Glory Of The Last Hours Of A Kingdom SAINT Ready To Meet His Blessed Lord And Redeemer.
The Intelligence, which is purified and rises above all material things to have a precise Vision of God is deified in its Vision; and since true Knowledge presupposes the Union of Knower and the Object, the Divine Gnosis of the Saints culminate in their Union with GOD.
From the foregoing the Resurrection becomes comprehensible. The bodies with which the Saints will RISE will be strictly identical with the bodies they bore in earth, since they will have the same "Form". On the other hand, the qualities of their material substrata will be different, for instead of being fleshly qualities appropriate to terrestrial existence, they will be spiritual ones suitable for the Kingdom Of Heaven. The SOUL needs a better Garment for the purer, ethereal and celestial regions; and, the famous Pauline text: 1 Corinthians 15 vs. 42-44 shows that this transformation is possible without the IDENTITY being impaired. When the Body was at the service of the Soul, it was psychic; but when the Soul is united with GOD and becomes One Spirit with Him, the selfsame Body becomes Spiritual, bodily nature being capable of donning the qualities appropriate to its condition.
Thus, happily, when we REACH HEAVEN, as God's Kingdom SAINTS, having been SANCTIFIED and SEALED Unto Eternal Life And Glory to God's Glory, by His Grace, are destined to ENJOY Eternal SUPERNATURAL BLESSINGS of Heavenly Blessedness of The Eternal Father, Almighty YAHWEH/JEHOVAH Who Reigns at Zion in Glory Above.
A VISION OF THE BLESSED SAINTS ETERNAL LIFE IN HEAVEN
When we reach HEAVEN as The LORD'S Redeemed SAINTS, we shall behold and understand the nature of the 🌟 STARS and the reasons for their respective positions. God will unveil the causes of phenomena to us, and at a later stage we will reach things, which cannot be seen, and which are ineffable. Finally , when we have made such progress that we are no longer Bodies, nor even perhaps ordinary Human Souls but pure intelligences, we will contemplate rational and intelligible substances face to face. In this blessed state our Free-will is destined to continue unaltered. But if it be asked what will prevent it slipping back on occasion to sin the Apostle supplies the answer with this declaration: "Love Never Fails". When the creature has learned to love God purely and wholeheartedly, that very love, which is greater than anything else, will prevent it from relapsing.
Thus there will then be only one occupation for those who have come to God, so that, being formed in the Knowledge of The Father, we may all become in the strict sense Sons, just as now it is The SON Alone Who Knows The FATHER ... It is no error to say that no one knows The Father, be he apostle or prophet, except he has become one with Him, as The Father and The Son are ONE.
Of course, the attainment of "Eternal Life" is the GOAL of every Christian/Zionist striving or end aspiration. The Eternal FATHER is Himself our veritable Life and thus "Eternal Life" can be succinctly defined as being forever with The LORD.
After the Resurrection, the Elect will be counted worthy to behold God face to face. They will blossom like Flowers in that brilliant demesne, enjoying FRIENDSHIP with one Another and with GOD.
We define HEAVEN as The Blessed Abode Of Perpetual Festivals, illuminated by the Brightness of The GODHEAD of which we can only catch obscure, fleeting glimpses and it will be our JOY to gaze upon The Trinity of Divine PERSONS. The understanding can scarcely grasp the magnitude of the Blessings that await us: for we shall become SAINTS and shall, in fact, be DEIFIED.
In addition to Immortality, our human nature will find itself adorned with qualities of Glory, Honour, Power and Perfection. The most intense desire of the SAINTS will be to SEE dOD, that is, to possess a clear and perfect knowledge of Him.
The Elect will SEE GOD as far as it is possible for them to SEE Him, but may NOT be able actually to comprehend the Divine Essence. What GOD in His infinite Being is, neither Prophets, nor even Angels or Archangels have seen. This is a Privilege, which has been uniquely bestowed on The SON and The Holy Spirit Alone, which no creature could ever usurp.
The process of DEIFICATION, which is our REDEMPTION, will attain its climax after the PAROUSIA, and the RESURRECTION when the Union of the Elect with their LORD will be indissoluble. Our Intelligence will then be filled with Divine, ineffable Light and the Partial Knowledge we have ENJOYED hitherto will give place to "a more binding Gnosis". Freed from all shackles without needing figure, riddle or parable, we shall contemplate, as it were with face uncovered and encumbered mind, the beauty of the Divine Nature of our God and The Father; and, this "perfect Gnosis of God", "this species of Divine knowledge", will fill us with Happiness. Our resuscitated Bodies, having discarded their "corruptibility" and other infirmities will participate in the Life and Glory of Lord Christ De Messiah.
Since there are many Mansions in the Father's House, the Felicity of the Blessed Saints will be graded in proportion to their merits.
HEAVEN can be defined as a realm of unsullied Happiness where the Elect are exempt from corruption, decay and death as a result of their Union with Lord Christ De Messiah. It is a region of supreme Rest, Eternal Life, Light and imperishable Glory. There we behold the Blessed FELLOWSHIP which the SAINTS have with One Another and with The LORD, our Eternal FATHER, and of the mutually sympathetic Charity which binds them together.
For indeed what they experience is NOT simply Union with God, but adhesion to Him.
In knowing God we discover where lay the cause of the created Universe, the light by which Truth is perceived and the fountain from which Blessedness is drunk. In fact, it is God Who is unchanging Goodness, Who is our "summum bonum"; and, both our moral perfection and our final happiness consist in knowing and loving The Divine TRINITY. And, it is this beatitude which the REDEEMED, both Men and Angels, ENJOY in HEAVEN, their true fatherland.
THE KINGDOM OF GOD MADE MANIFEST IN THE BELIEVER'S LIFE
(Romans 14: 17-18)
"For the Kingdom Of God is NOT eating and drinking, but Righteousness, and Peace, and Joy in the Holy Spirit. For he that in this serves The Lord Christ is acceptable to God and approved of men".
Evidently, the Kingdom Of God is practically made manifest whenever a true Child of God walks in true subjection to God Almighty and displays in his life the moral characteristics of the Kingdom Of God. Thus his life is NOT characterized by carnality and indulging in earthly pleasures or enjoyment of meats and drinks as depicted in the Scriptural Passage. Instead, by his life the ennobling characteristics of the Kingdom Of God will be obviously expressed in him to God's Glory, namely: Righteousness, Peace, Morality and Joy in the Holy Spirit.
Of course, such saintly PERSONS living in such spirit of heroic virtuous characters are NOT contentiously occupied with trifles, bickerings, bitterness and rancours. Rather, their hearts and lives are led, governed by the Holy Spirit Of God. This is indeed God's Kingdom in an earnest and faithful BELIEVER, a CHRISTIAN or ZIONIST ~ a purely manifestation of the moral and practical RULE of God in man's SOUL. This implies the Life of God in a true and faithful BELIEVER.
Above all, the Principle of Righteousness in all its embodiment of Morality and Holiness is, first and foremost, in the KINGDOM OF GOD. After all, this is what the Church of God on Earth is set up to teach, impart and uphold in the lives of MEMBERS: The MEMBERS are the CHURCH. For the Church of God is NOT the earthly Structure or Building, mansion made by Man.
God is rather interested in the Building that He Himself Made and that Building is man ~ His CHURCH.
God's Eternal Divine Promise Of Inheritance of His Kingdom Of HEAVEN belongs to His Living Militant Church, that is, His Kingdom SAINTS on Earth. Unto the saintly PERSONS such as these, The Lord Jesus Christ De Messiah comes again In Glory and Power in His RAPTURE ~ to take them to their Blessed Happy Home @ Zion in Glory Above.
Then shall the Psalmist Words be finally fulfilled: "Be Still And Know That I Am God"!
Shout out then in fulfillment of Prophetic Words of Matthew 24 v. 14 the glorious Kingdom News: "GOD'S KINGDOM RULES!
